The Windber Research Institute (WRI) is a not-for-profit research institute dedicated to the belief that the best way to rapidly improve individual patient care, outcomes, and quality of life is by translating molecular research, driven by clinical questions, into new standards of patient care.  Along with colleagues at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, Maryland, we focus our research in two main areas: breast cancer and cardio-vascular disease.  Our breast cancer research is carried out as part of the Breast Cancer Translational Research Center of Excellence, located in the John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda (WRB).  Our research in cardio-vascular disease is part of the Integrative Cardiac Health Translational Research Center of Excellence also at WRB.

WRI is also home to the Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (CHPDP) which is dedicated to prevention, health promotion and wellness. Our goals are to be able to identify actions that lead to positive changes in behavior and health for the citizens of our community, as well as being able to demonstrate the financial benefits of such activities to insurers and health care providers.
